Obituary of Rena Bell Alexander

Funeral services for Rena Bell Alexander, age 79, of Roanoke, will be held Tuesday, September 23, 2014, at 2:00 pm from Macedonia Baptist Church with Pastor Martin Barlow and Pastor Clevence Weekes officiating. Burial will follow at the adjoining cemetery with Quattlebaum Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 5:00 to 7:00 pm on Monday, September 22nd. Mrs. Alexander will lie in state at the church for one hour prior to services beginning at 1:00 pm on Tuesday.
Mrs. Alexander died Saturday, September 20, 2014, at East Alabama Medical Center in Opelika.
Survivors include two daughters, Bonnie Carson (husband, George) of Roanoke and Bertha Anne Brown (husband, Daryl) of Roanoke; one son, Alton A. Alexander of Roanoke; six grandchildren, Oliver Carson, Richard Alexander, Christopher Cauley, Daniel Cauley, Lisa Brown and Tyler Brown; two great-grandchildren; and a brother, Paul F. Skinner of Deatsville.
A Deatsville native, Mrs. Alexander was born February 2, 1935, the daughter of George Arthur and Birdie Lee Gentry Skinner. She was a member of Cedarlane Ministries in Heard County and was a self-employed caretaker. Mrs. Alexander was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Robert Earl Alexander; brother, George Skinner; twin sister, Annie Manning; sister, Mary Ella Scott.
