About Us
Quattlebaum Funeral Home is owned by Randy and Tammy Gibbs, both of whom are involved in the day-to-day operations of this company and its sister firm, Benefield Funeral Home in Wedowee.
Quattlebaum’s was founded in 1930 by Robert B. Quattlebaum on Roanoke’s West Point Street. Relocated to Maple Drive, Quattlebaum Funeral Home was just across from Knight Sanatorium for many years. In 1953, a new building was constructed on College Street – where the funeral home is today.
During the early years, Mr. Quattlebaum was actively managing the funeral home as well as an ambulance service. Mr. Richard Harlin became manager in the early 1960’s and operated the business for many years. The funeral home changed hands in 1988 with Donald E. Benefield (founder of Benefield Funeral Home in Wedowee) owning and managing Quattlebaum’s for a short time. In February, 1990, Randy Gibbs, of neighboring Cleburne County, purchased the funeral home. He started his funeral service career in 1974 with Wynn Funeral Home in Bowdon, Georgia, worked several years with Dryden Funeral Home in Heflin, Alabama, and came to Randolph County from there.
The Gibbs family immediately began plans for an expansion, including a new chapel addition. The three-phase project, started in 1998 and completed in 1999, brought Quattlebaum Funeral Home to its current look. Two extra-large viewing rooms are entered from an expansive entry foyer. There is a 24-pew chapel that can seat 200+ people comfortably. Utilizing overflow areas, many more people may view/hear the chapel funeral services. Two large handicap-accessible bathrooms are provided for visitors’ comfort. There is a lounge with soft drink vending and a water fountain. Quattlebaum Funeral Home is a no-smoking facility.
The selection room shows 26 full-size caskets, allowing families to see the actual merchandise as they make purchasing decisions. In keeping with our company standards of exceptional services, we make every effort to provide just what the family had in mind.
The heart of Quattlebaum Funeral Home is the people who work here. From the time a death occurs, the entire staff is committed to providing only the best in service. Families who call on us will be treated with an extraordinary degree of caring and compassion.
We’re here when you need us.
