Funeral services for Mavis Hyatt Ray, age 91, of Roanoke will be held on Monday, August 25, 2014, at 2:00 PM from Quattlebaum Funeral Chapel with Rev. Ricky Etchison and Rev. Frank Foster officiating. Burial will follow at Cedarwood Cemetery.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 5:00-8:00 PM on Sunday, August 24, 2014.
Mrs. Ray passed away Friday, August 22, 2014, at Traylors Nursing Center in Roanoke.
Survivors include her husband, James W. Ray, Jr., of Roanoke; two stepdaughters, Denise Easter (husband, James) of Waynesboro, VA, and Mary John Brown (husband, Mike) of Wadley; one son, Darrell Hyatt (wife, Patty) of Houston, TX; two stepsons, Wayne Ray (wife, Ilene) of Fort Worth, TX and James W. Ray, III (wife, Carol), of Roanoke; two grandchildren; five step-grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; five step-great-grandchildren; half-sister, Reather Terry of Winston, GA; and half-brother, J.W. Gosdin of McDonough, GA.
A Randolph County native, Mrs. Ray was born on December 11, 1922, the daughter of Whit
and Molly Cofield Gosdin. She was a member of Trinity Baptist Church and had worked as a presser for Palm Beach Company. Mrs. Ray was preceded in death by her parents; her first husband, John Manley Hyatt; and several brothers and sisters.
