Funeral services for James Kenneth Carter, age 74, of Roanoke will be held on Wednesday, May 7, 2014, at 11:00 AM from Mountain Springs Baptist Church with Rev. Jimmy Sprayberry and Bro. Harry Collins officiating. Burial will follow in the adjoining cemetery with Quattlebaum Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 5:00-7:00 PM on Tuesday, May 6, 2014. Mr. Carter will lie in state at the church for one hour prior to services beginning on Wednesday, May 7.
Survivors include his wife, Annie Lee Carter of Roanoke; one daughter, Christal Renee Rapp of Virginia; and three grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Edwin Hodnett, Tony Waters, Danny Carden, and Mark Carden.
A Washington DC native, Mr. Carter was born on June 2, 1939, the son of Woodrow Wilson and Bessie Dickerson Carter. He was a member of Mountain Springs Baptist Church and was retired from United States Air Force where he served during the Desert Storm War. Mr. Carter was preceded in death by his parents.
