Obituary of Holley Yates Howard

Funeral services for Holley Yates Howard, age 88, of Roanoke, will be held on Sunday, February 16, 2014, at 2:00 PM from Quattlebaum Funeral Chapel with Rev. Shannon Mapp officiating. Burial will follow at Wehadkee Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 4:30-8:00 PM on Saturday, February 15, 2014. Mr. Howard passed away Friday, February 14, 2014, at Roanoke Health Care. Survivors include his wife, Letha Mae Howard of Roanoke; one daughter, Mae (Jimmy) Burks of Roanoke; two sons, Wilford (Brenda) Yates Howard of Carrollton, GA, and Lon (Susan) Howard of Roanoke; four grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and two brothers, Herman Howard and Emmette Howard, both of Roanoke. A lifelong resident of Roanoke, Mr. Howard was born on April 26, 1925, the son of George and Ruthie Laws Howard. He was a World War II Navy Veteran and Baptist by faith. He had been employed as landfill equipment operator with Randolph County. Mr. Howard was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, George Howard and Wright Howard. The family will accept flowers or suggests donations be made to Wehadkee and Rock Mills Cemetery.
