Obituary of Louise Heard McDow

Funeral services for Louise Heard McDow, age 94, of Roanoke, will be held Sunday, November 10, 2013, at 2:00 p.m. from Trinity Baptist Church with Rev. Jeff Burns and Rev. Frank Sledge officiating. Burial will follow at Randolph Memory Gardens with Quattlebaum Funeral Home in charge of arrangements. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Saturday. Mrs. McDow will lie in state at the church for one hour prior to services beginning at 1:00 p.m. Mrs. McDow died Friday, November 8, 2013, at Traylor Nursing Center in Roanoke. Survivors include one daughter, Frances McDow of Roanoke; three sons, John Herman McDow (Barbara) of Roanoke, James Kermit McDow (Pat) of Alexander City and William Harvey McDow of Roanoke; four grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren. A lifelong Randolph County resident, Mrs. McDow was born June 16, 1919, daughter of Edgar S. and Ethel Hester Heard. She was a homemaker and a member of Trinity Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her parents; step-mother, Dona Williams Heard; husband, J. C. "Red" McDow; sisters, Alice Sanders and Sarah Calhoun; brothers, Eliot Heard, Herbert Heard, John Heard and William Bryan Heard. Memorials may be floral or the family suggests contributions to Trinity Baptist Church Family Life Center.
