Obituary of Janet Mitchum

Funeral services for Janet Benefield Mitchum, age 88, of Roanoke, will be held Monday, October 21, 2013, at 2:00 p.m. from Quattlebaum Funeral Chapel with Rev. Jeff Burns officiating. Burial will follow at Randolph Memory Gardens. The family will receive friends at the funeral home beginning at 12:00 p.m. on Monday. Mrs. Mitchum died Friday, October 18, 2013, at Wedowee Hospital. Survivors include one daughter, Lynda Tucker of Enterprise; one son, Jerry Mitchum of Roanoke; six grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; three sisters, Melba Crossett of Memphis, TN, Eucal Huey and Joy Allen both of Roanoke. Pallbearers will be William Tucker, Phillip Tucker, Tony Mitchum, Billy Lane, Michael Christopher, and Jason Tucker. A Randolph County native, Mrs. Mitchum was born March 7, 1925, daughter of George Ripley and Minnie May Beaird Benefield. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Roanoke and had been employed as a seamstress with Palm Beach. She was preceded in death by her husband, Raymond Mitchum; her parents Ripley and May Benefield; two brothers, Olin Benefield and Millard Benefield; son-in-law, William Tucker, Jr.
