Obituary of Doris Kemp Laney

Funeral services for Doris Kemp Laney, age 96, of Roanoke, will be held on Thursday, September 19, 2013, at 3:00 p.m. from Quattlebaum Funeral Chapel with Bro. Gerald Romine and her nephew, Joel Laney officiating. Burial will follow at Randolph Memory Gardens with Quattlebaum Funeral Home in charge of arrangements. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday, September 18, 2013. Mrs. Laney died Sunday, September 15, 2013, at LaGrange Nursing and Rehab. Survivors include one son, Alan Kemp Laney (wife, Jennifer) of Fairview, TN; one granddaughter, Katelyn Laney of Fairview, TN; two grandsons, Jesse Laney (wife, Emily) and Casey Laney both of Portland, OR; one great-grandson, Jasper Laney of Portland, OR; one sister, Billie Toth (husband, Andrew) of Chattanooga. Honorary pallbearers will be Gerald Bowie, Danny Toth, Gerald Kemp, Larry Bowie, Tom Ray, Joel Laney, Jim Tom Willingham, Martin Grizzard, and Glen Norwood. Mrs. Laney was born December 26, 1916, the daughter of Harvey W. Kemp and Katie Grizzard and raised by her stepfather, Watson Williamson. She was a member of Roanoke Church of Christ and had been employed as an office clerk with Diamond Building Supply in Chattanooga. Mrs. Laney was preceded in death by her parents; her stepfather; her husband of 53 years, Eulas Laney; one brother, Hugh Kemp; three sisters, Kathleen Bowie, Tommie Allison, and Bonnie Ray.
