Obituary of Hattie Jewell Mitchell

Funeral services for Hattie Jewell Mitchell, age 94, of Roanoke will be held on Wednesday, September 18, 2013, at 11:00 a.m. from Quattlebaum Funeral Chapel with Rev. Johnny Williams and Rev. Scott Whaley officiating. Burial will follow at the Randolph Memorial Gardens with Quattlebaum Funeral Home in charge of arrangements. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, September 17, 2013. Mrs. Mitchell died Monday, September 16, 2013, at Hospice LaGrange. Survivors include: three sons; Dewey (Margie) Sears of Pell City, Alabama, Larry (Diane) Mitchell of Roanoke, and Greg (Shawn) Mitchell of Roanoke; daughter-in-law, Shirley Mitchell of Roanoke; seven grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and nine great-great-grandchildren. Pallbearers will be Kevin Warren, John Warren, Kendle Baliss, Michael Mitchell, Brian Mitchell, Brett Mitchell, Tyler Henderson, Phillip Treptau, and Chris Treptau. A lifelong resident of Roanoke, Mrs. Mitchell was born on February 15, 1919, the daughter of George Sears and Katie Bell Sears. She was a member of Maplewood Baptist Church and a trimmer at Palm Beach. Mrs. Mitchell was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Elton Mitchell; one son, Jerry Mitchell; grandson, Phillip Sears; granddaughter, Heather Treptau; and two sisters, Gladys Coleman and Agnes Griffin.
