Funeral services for Nannie Rice Butler, age 89, of Roanoke, will be held Sunday, August 4, 2013, at 2:00 pm from Quattlebaum Funeral Chapel with Rev. Jeff Burns and Rev. Frank Sledge officiating. Burial will follow at Randolph Memory Gardens.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 5:00 to 8:00 pm on Saturday, August 3rd.
Mrs. Butler died Thursday, August 1, 2013, at Regional Medical Center in Jacksonville.
Survivors include three daughters, Dianne Carson of Roanoke, Linda Davis of Dallas, TX, and Geraldine Sheppard (husband, Aaron) of Decatur, GA; two sons, Lawrence Butler (wife, Penny) of Whitesburg, GA, and Stan Butler of Wedowee; twelve grandchildren and eighteen great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Cody Butler, Wes Carson, David Sheppard, Rick Sheppard, and Chris Davis.
Mrs. Butler was born August 9, 1923, daughter of John L. and Willie B. Arrington Rice. She was a member of the Roanoke Garden Club and Trinity Baptist Church where she sang in the church choir. She had been employed as a seamstress with Palm Beach. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Horace Butler; one daughter, Brenda Faye Royster; one sister, Mary John Tarver; two brothers, Grover "Ted" Rice and Larry Rice.
The family will accept flowers or donations to Trinity Baptist Church or a charity of one's choice.
