OBITUARY Funeral services for Gaylene Gatlin Adams, age 79, of Roanoke, will be held 11:00 am, Saturday, December 15, 2012, from the First Baptist Church of Roanoke with John Tinney and Rev. Ben Bailie officiating. Mrs. Adams will lie in state one hour before the service at the church. Burial to follow in Pleasant Grove Cemetery, Glenn, GA, with Quattlebaum Funeral Home in charge of arrangements. The family will receive friends from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm on Friday, December 14, 2012 at the funeral home. Pallbearers will be Charlie Morris Strickland, Wayne Miller, Thomas Miller, Michael Gatlin, Scott Gatlin, Evan Manning, Brad Purdy and Yancey Gatlin. Mrs. Adams died Wednesday, December 12, 2012 at West Georgia Health Systems. Mrs. Adams is survived by one daughter, Christalene Head and husband Darby of Roanoke; two sons, Arlen Oliver Adams and wife Sharon of Smith Station, Benjamin Wesley Adams and wife Yvette of Gurley; two brothers, Kenneth Gatlin and wife Claudie Mae of Valley, Richard Gatlin and wife Pat of Douglasville, GA; seven grandchildren; fourteen great grandchildren. Mrs. Adams was born October 23, 1933, the daughter of Colley and Ethelene Colley Gatlin. She was a member of the First Baptist Church. Beginning at an early age she became a home missionary serving many Baptist Churches in Georgia. Mrs. Adams made several mission trips to Jamaica where she taught Vacation Bible School. She served as the Church and Community Ministries Director and secretary-treasurer for the Randolph Baptist Association. Along side her husband they owned and operated Adams Eden, a dairy and beef cattle farm near Wehadkee. She worked with several different insurance companies in the Roanoke and Valley areas. She along with her husband owned and operated the Randolph County Insurance Agency until they retired. Mrs. Adams was preceded in death by her husband; Benjamin Oliver Adams; her parents; one brother, Colley Gatlin.
