Obituary of James Cecil Harris
Graveside services for James Cecil Harris, age 77, of Lanett will be held on Wednesday, September 18, 2024, at 2:00 PM CDT at the Old New Hope Baptist Church Cemetery in Fredonia with Bro. Scott Whaley officiating and Quattlebaum Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 12:00-1:30 PM CDT on Wednesday before services begin.
Mr. Harris passed away on Saturday, September 14, 2024, at the Bethany House in Auburn.
Survivors include his wife of 54 years, Brenda Harris of Lanett; two daughters, Tracy Lynn Harris Quinton (Steve) of Lanett and Danielle Harris of Salem; three grandchildren, Courtney Matthew Quinton (Jewellynn), Samantha Faith Quinton, and Matthew Gauntt; and one brother, Alvin Gay Harris (Rachel) of Five Points.
Pallbearers will be Price Junior Carter, James Michael Carter, Courtney Matthew Quinton, Jarrod Michael Carter, James Paul Smith, James Truitt, and Eric Sharpe. Matthew Gauntt will serve as an honorary pallbearer.
A Dickert native, Mr. Harris was born on June 1, 1947, the son of J. D. and Annie Ruth Carson Harris. He was a member of Central Baptist Church in Lanett and had attended Lane’s Chapel Methodist Church as a child. Mr. Harris was a United States Army veteran of the Vietnam conflict in which he was the recipient of a Purple Heart. He was hardworking and took pride in his work. Mr. Harris worked at Handley Mills before they closed, worked in construction doing millwork, and also had his own floor covering installation business called J & B Carpet Installation. He was very adventurous and loved being outdoors. He loved skydiving, golf, and running, having run seven marathons in his lifetime. Mr. Harris was a devoted husband and a loving father, grandfather, and brother. He loved his girls with everything he had and loved his son-in-law like a son. His family was his world.
Mr. Harris was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Carolyn Smith.
