Obituary of Shannon Neal Laney

Funeral services for Shannon Neal Laney, age 44, of Woodland will be held on Thursday, November 3, 2022, a 2:00 PM at Heritage Baptist Church with Bro. Derek Farr officiating and Quattlebaum Funeral Home in charge of arrangements. 

The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 4:00-6:00 PM on Wednesday, November 2, 2022.  Mr. Laney will lie in state at the church for one hour prior to services beginning on Thursday.

Mr. Laney passed away Sunday, October 30, 2022, at Tanner Medical Center in Carrollton, Georgia.

Survivors include his significant other, Michelle Garrett of Woodland; son, Alex Laney of Wadley; three stepchildren, Brittany Garrett and Bridgett Garrett, both of Woodland, and Marquise Watkins of Roanoke; his father, Neil Laney (stepmother, Virginia) of Wedowee, 11 grandchildren, Charleston Laney, Kinsley Garrett, Sawyer Garrett, Gage Garrett, Lillian Howard, Rae’lynn Hammond, Brynlee Hammond, Grayson Hammond, Owen Garrett, Savannah Garrett, and Gracee Rochester; five sisters, Denise Lamb, Pam Wiggins, Angela Scott, Kim Davidson, and Deanna Fuller; and five brothers, Scott Fowler, Cody Higginbotham, Cory Higginbotham, Chad Higginbotham, and Justin Manley.

Pallbearers will be Cody Higginbotham, Justin Manley, Hank Scott, Davis Lamb, Cory Higginbotham, Chad Higginbotham, and Kyle Reed.

A Randolph County native, Mr. Laney was born in Opelika on December 2, 1977, the son of Hollis Neil and Margaret Mobley Laney.  He worked as a law enforcement officer for Roanoke City Police, Randolph County Sheriff’s Department, and the Wadley Police Department.  Mr. Laney was preceded in death by his mother.

Memorials may be floral or donations may be made to Quattlebaum Funeral Home to go toward final expenses.
