Obituary of Hershel Velpo Railey

Funeral services for Hershel Velpo Railey, age 80, of Wadley, Alabama, will be held on Thursday, May 5, 2022, at 12:00 noon at Quattlebaum Funeral Chapel with Bro. Zenus Windsor officiating. Burial will follow at Wadley Cemetery.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 11:00 a.m. - 12:00 noon on Thursday before services begin.

Mr. Railey passed away Tuesday, May 3, 2022, in UAB Hospital, Birmingham, Alabama.

Survivors include his children, Lauren Railey of Holtville, AL, Vanessa Clark of Daviston, AL, and Gerald Wayne Railey (Kim) of Tallassee, AL; friend and companion, Helen Bible of Heflin, AL; nine grandchildren, Ginny Lynn Carlisle (Nick), Spencer Railey (Rachel), Noah Railey (Page), David Railey, Chris Brown, Brandon Brown (Ariel), Austin Railey, Emily Railey, and Ethan Railey; seven great-grandchildren; eight nieces and nephews; and four brothers and sisters, Wayne Railey (Linda) of Alexander City, AL, Helen LaRue Railey of Oxford, AL, Linda Walker of Roanoke, AL, and Richard Railey (Debbie) of Auburn, AL.

Pallbearers will be Noah Railey, David Railey, Spencer Railey, Patrick Railey, Austin Railey and Chris Brown

A lifelong Wadley resident, Mr. Railey was born on July 24, 1941, the son of Talmadge V. and Georgia Bertha Robinson Railey.  He was a home construction contractor. Mr. Railey was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Rita Sherry Railey; and daughter-in-law, Kelly Railey.
