Obituary of Ruth Holliday
Funeral services for Miss Ruth Holliday, age 104, of Roanoke, will be held at 2:00 pm on Sunday, February 13, 2022, at Quattlebaum Funeral Chapel with Rev. Scott Hannah officiating. Burial will follow at Cedarwood Cemetery.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home for one hour prior to services on Sunday.
Miss Holliday passed away on Thursday, February 10, 2022, at Traylor Nursing Home in Roanoke.
Survivors include three nieces and three nephews.
A Randolph County native, Miss Holliday was born October 16, 1917, the twin daughter of William Thomas and Pearl Jane Fincher Holliday. She attended schools in Roanoke and upon graduation, lived and worked in LaGrange. She attended and received a Steno graphic’s Certificate from Perry Business School. She was a member of First Baptist Church, LaGrange and worked in the Junior B Department.
She was accepted and worked for the FBI as a Coordinator in the Records Division. She became an F.B.I.R.A hostess, a group that assisted at Walter Reed and Bethesda Naval Hospital and other Washington D. C. facilities. During her time in Washington, she was a member of National Memorial Baptist Church on 16th Street.
Coming back to her home in Roanoke, she became involved in activities of First Baptist Church. She served as church clerk, W.M.U director, Randolph Baptist Association Leader of Women and Mission Active Association Leader for years.
Ruth helped direct and teach Sunday School classes at Traylor Nursing Home, Knollwood, T.E.L. and Faithful Workers. She became involved with Association Seniors; she was the Church Mission Action Leader and assisted at the Service Center. She also taught with the Alabama State Laubach Literacy Program (Baptist).
Ruth retired from Randolph County Hospital, working with accounts in the office.
