Obituary of Buddy Akins

Funeral services for Buddy Akins, age 69, of Five Points, will be held on Sunday, December 12, 2021, at 2:00 PM at Quattlebaum Funeral Chapel with Bro. Stiles Akins officiating.  Burial will follow at Old Swint-Hammack Cemetery.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 5:00-8:00 PM on Saturday, December 11, 2021.

Mr. Akins passed away on Thursday, December 9, 2021, at East Alabama Medical Center in Opelika, Alabama.

Survivors include his wife, Ruby Akins of Roanoke; one daughter, Amy Akins of Roanoke; one son, Edward Bruce “Eddie” Akins, III, (Johnnie) of Roanoke; four grandchildren; one great-grandchild; two sisters; Sara Akins (Odell) and Ann Daniel (Elmer), both of Lanett; and one brother, Stiles Akins of Lanett.

Pallbearers will be Tyler Akins, Brayden Akins, Kevin Watson, Steven Snow, Wade Daniel, and Josh Akins.

A Chambers County native, Mr. Akins was born on April 24, 1952, the son of Edward Bruce Akins, Sr., and Janeth Ruth McGuffin Akins.  He was a member of Community Baptist Church and was a self-employed heavy equipment operator.  Mr. Akins was preceded in death by his parents; two great-grandchildren, Aliya and Janeth Todd; and a brother, Steve Teel Akins.
