OBITUARY
Funeral services for, Herman Wallace Burke, age 78, of Roanoke, will be held 2:00 pm, Saturday, February 11, 2012, from Mt. Calvary Baptist Church with Bro. Wendell Rush and Bro. Ricky Emery officiating. Mr. Burke will lie in state one hour before the service at the church. Burial will follow in Randolph Memory Gardens with Quattlebaum Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
The family will receive friends from at the funeral home from 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm on Friday, February 10, 2012.
Pallbearers will be Bubba George, T J Ferguson, Kylie Laws, Johnny Burke, Nick Burke, Bubba Gilford. Honorary pallbearers will be Zak Anthony.
Mr. Burke died Thursday, February 9, 2012 at Knollwood Apartments.
Mr. Burke is survived by two daughters, Lisa (husband Mike) Smith of Roanoke, April Anthony of Roanoke; three step-sons, John C. George of Johnson City, TN, Patrick L. George of Roanoke, Brian A. George of Tampa, FL; two sisters, Lois Wilson of Roanoke, Margaret Burke of Roanoke; fifteen grandchildren; four great grandchildren.
Mr. Burke was born April 15, 1934, the son of Jay Hugh and Talitha Lipp Burke. He was a member of the Baptist Tabernacle and had been a pipe fitter for Piedmont Mechanical. Mr. Burke was preceded in death by his wife, Jane Burke; three brothers; three sisters.
