Obituary of Lynne Messer Barnes
Lynne Messer Barnes, 66, of Birmingham, AL, passed away Monday, November 1st , surrounded by her loving family.
Visitation will be held on Friday, November 5th, at 1:00 PM at Southern Heritage Funeral Home in Birmingham, AL, with a Memorial Service to follow at 2:00 PM.
She will lie in state on Saturday, November 6th from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM, in Roanoke, AL at the First United Methodist Church with graveside services at 2:30 PM at Randolph Memory Gardens in Roanoke.
Lynne was born in Lafayette, AL on September 28th, 1955, to Mary Agnes and Junior W. Messer.
She graduated from Handley High School in Roanoke, AL in 1973. She then attended Jacksonville State University, where she was a member of the Marching Southerners Band, serving as Captain for the distinguished Color Guard/Rifle Line.
She was preceded in death by her late husband, Terry W. Barnes, whom she married in 1988. Lynne worked at Samford University’s School of Pharmacy for several years, serving as the assistant to the Dean of Pharmacy.
Lynne had a passion for arts and crafts, sewing and interior decorating, and loved spending time near any body of water. She was most at peace at the lake.
She is survived by her mother, Mary Agnes Messer, daughter Blair Ussery Kelly (Chris), son Derrick Ussery (Nicole), and grandchildren Ella, Paxton and Landon. She is also survived by her brother, Paul D. Messer (Kittie), sister Dawn Simpson (Nick). She is also survived by her first husband and best friend, Daryl Ussery, six nieces and nephews, and countless cousins and dear friends.
