Obituary of Opal Farr Blackmon
Funeral services for Opal Farr Blackmon, age 76, of Roanoke will be held on Wednesday, September 8, 2021, at 2:00 PM at Mt. Calvary Baptist Church with Bro. Ricky Emery and Bro. Derek Farr officiating. Burial will follow at Randolph Memory Gardens with Quattlebaum Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 5:00-8:00 PM on Tuesday, September 7, 2021. Mrs. Blackmon will lie in state at the church for one hour prior to services beginning on Wednesday.
Mrs. Blackmon passed away on Sunday, September 5, 2021, at her residence.
Survivors include her husband, Jimmy Blackmon of Roanoke; one son, Dwight Blackmon of Roanoke; four grandchildren, Crystal Peace (Steve) of Tallapoosa, GA, Timothy Blackmon (Nikki), Mary Earnest, and Nicole Dabbs (Caleb), all of Roanoke; 17 great-grandchildren; and one brother, Donald Farr of Roanoke.
Pallbearers will be Cody Cohran, Austin Heard, Ethan Peace, Jamie Farr, James Norred and Randy Farr.
A Randolph County, Alabama native, Mrs. Blackmon was born on November 2, 1944, the daughter of Britt and Leola Hallman Farr. She was a member of Mt. Calvary Baptist Church and worked as a weaver for Amoco. Mrs. Blackmon was preceded in death by her parents; a grandchild, Kyle Blackmon; sisters, Frances Sawyer, Virginia Yates, Winfred “Freddy” McCard; and brothers, Lindsey Farr, Jimmy Farr, and Howard Farr.
