Obituary of Florence Elizabeth Haynes

Funeral services for Florence Elizabeth “Betty” Burke Haynes, age 87, of Atlanta, GA will be held on Thursday, March 4, 2021, at 12:00 PM CST at Quattlebaum Funeral Chapel with Shane Haynes officiating.  Burial will follow at Randolph Memory Gardens.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 10:00-11:30 AM CST prior to the funeral. 

Mrs. Haynes died on Monday, March 1, 2021, at her residence surrounded by her family.

Survivors include her daughter, Carolyn Harmon (Roger) of Villa Rica, GA; sons, Wendell Haynes (Deborah) of Millport, AL, and Shane Haynes (Mary Beth) of Hoover, AL; grandchildren, Sean Haynes of Atlanta, GA, Ashley Haynes of Biloxi, MS, Hayden Haynes of Tuscaloosa, AL, Emmaline Haynes of Hoover, AL and Arden Haynes of Hoover, AL; and several great grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Wendell Haynes, Ashley Haynes, Shane Haynes, Hayden Haynes, Roger Harmon, Mike Hodges, and Marcus Hodges.

An Atlanta resident, Mrs. Haynes was born in Roanoke, AL on February 12, 1934, the daughter of Munroe and Theodore “Teddy” Smith Burke. Betty was a devoted wife, deeply loving mother, and Maw-Maw to her grandchildren. She was a long-time member of Enon Baptist Church in Atlanta. She worked for the Fulton County school system and public library and was a homemaker. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 59 years, Alfred P. Haynes; sons, Dennis Haynes and Marlin Haynes, brother Grover Burke and sisters, Runette B. Hodges, and Irene B. Hunt.
