Obituary of Rev. William Yancey Sanders
Rev. William Yancey Sanders, age 97, of Lanett, Alabama, went home to be with his Lord and Savior Wednesday, August 19, 2020. He passed away peacefully at his home. A graveside service will be held Sunday, August 23, 2020, at 3:15 PM CST at Fredonia United Methodist Church Cemetery with Bro. Ricky Cummings and Bro. Gary Perry officiating with Quattlebaum Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. Emily Sanders will receive friends at Quattlebaum Funeral Home from 11:30-1:30 PM CST on Sunday, August 23, 2020.
Rev. Sanders was born in Tallapoosa County June 8, 1923, the son of William Arnold and Ida Mae Yancey Sanders. He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the Army Air Corps. He was a prisoner of war in Germany for 39 days. After returning from the war, he met and married Louise Camp. He was called to preach and attended Howard College (Samford University), where he received his bachelor’s degree. He went on to get his master’s degree from The Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in Louisville, KY. He was a Baptist preacher and dedicated his life to preaching the Gospel.
Yancey was active in the Fredonia community, helping each year with the Fredonia barbecue. He was an avid fisherman and especially enjoyed fishing for crappie, which he would filet and fry for his family and friends.
He is survived by his wife, Emily Sanders; daughters, Lynda Dawalt (Johnny) of Dry Ridge, KY and Emily Ragland (Doug) of Georgetown, KY; sons, David Sanders (Debbie) of Dallas, TX, Steve Sanders of Central, SC , and Ron Sanders (Gina) of Lanett, AL; 14 grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren (plus one on the way).
He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Louise Camp Sanders; brothers, Sam Sanders and Ted Sanders; and his daughter-in-law, Sharon Sanders.
