Graveside services for Jessie W. “Jake” Morris, age 92, of Roanoke will be held at 11:30 AM on Saturday, June 6, 2020, at Mt. Zion Christian Cemetery with Quattlebaum Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Morris passed away Tuesday, June 2, 2020, at his residence.
Survivors include his wife of 68 years, Mavis Reaves Morris of Roanoke; one daughter, Teresa Cavanagh of Roanoke; one son, Randall Morris (Lissa) of Guthrie, OK; five grandchildren, Sean Cavanagh, Aaron Morris, Thomas Morris, Lindsay Douglas, and Jesse Morris; eight great-grandchildren; and Sergeant Major (Ret.) Wilmer Morris of LaGrange, GA.
Pallbearers will be Aaron Morris, Jesse Morris, Sean Cavanagh, Randy Morris, Matthew Morris, and Thomas Morris.
A Roanoke native, Mr. Morris was born on November 21, 1927, the son of James Homer and Bessie Howard Still Morris. He was a member of Handley Avenue Church of God and was a United States Air Force veteran of World War II and the Korean conflict. Mr. Morris worked as a barber for the Post Barber Shop on Ft. McPherson. He was preceded in death by his father and brothers, Oliver Morris and Fred Morris.
