Obituary of Charles R. Nolan
Funeral services for Charles R. Nolan, age 87, of Alex City will be held on Wednesday, November 21, 2018, at 1:00 PM at Corinth Christian Church with Rev. Zenus Windsor officiating. Burial will follow in the adjoining cemetery with military honors and Quattlebaum Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 5:00-8:00 PM on Tuesday, November 20, 2018. Mr. Nolan will lie in state at the church for one hour prior to services beginning on Wednesday.
Mr. Nolan passed away Sunday, November 18, 2018 at Grandview Medical Center in Birmingham, Alabama.
Survivors include: two daughters, Judy Kay Albright Thompson (husband, Derryl) of Hackneyville and Shirley Ann Albright Bunn of Wedowee; daughter-in-law, Gaynell Albright of Alex City; four sons, Ronald Jackson Albright (wife, Cindy) of Goodwater, Bruce Wayne Albright (wife, Tara), Roger Allen Albright (wife, Cheryl), both of Wadley, and George David Albright (wife, Nancy), of Alex City; 18 grandchildren; 32 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Chris Albright, Jimmy Albright, Raymond Albright, Walt Albright, Mike Bunn, and Drew Bunn. Honorary pallbearers will be Mr. Nolan’s grandsons and great-grandsons.
A Roanoke native, Mr. Nolan was born on September 15, 1931, the son of Shelley Tolbert and Ruth Belle Landers Nolan. He was a member of Corinth Christian Church and was a veteran of the United States Navy and retired from the United States Air Force where he served in the Korean conflict. Mr. Nolan worked as a contractor and also owned and operated the Wadley Café. He was a strong family man who loved teaching his grandchildren and great-grandchildren all he enjoyed about fishing and building. Mr. Nolan was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Velma Knight Albright Nolan; a son, Jimmy Albright; and two sisters, Winifred Nolan Hatfield and Ann Nolan Taft Taylor.
The family would like to extend special appreciation to the 4th floor nursing staff at the Bill Nichols Veterans’ Home and the MICU at Grandview Medical Center and special friend Bradley. Memorials may be floral or donations may be made to the Bill Nichols Veterans’ Home at 1784 Elkahatchee Road, Alexander City, AL 35010, or to the Corinth Cemetery Fund at 341 County Road 883, Wadley, AL 36276.
