Funeral services for James William “Jimmy” Ray, Jr., age 91, of Roanoke will be held on Monday, April 2, 2018 at 2:00 PM from Quattlebaum Funeral Chapel with Rev. Frank Foster, Rev. Ricky Etchison, and Rev. Wallace Bell, Jr. officiating.  Burial will follow at Cedarwood Cemetery.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 5:00-8:00 PM on Sunday, April 1, 2018.

Mr. Ray passed away Thursday, March 29, 2018, at Traylor’s Nursing Center.

Survivors include: two daughters, Denise Easter (husband, James) of Mt. Airy, NC, and Mary John Brown (husband, Mike) of Wadley; two sons, Wayne Ray (wife, Ilene) of Benbrook, TX, and Jimmy Ray (wife, Carol Anne) of Roanoke; five grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and three sisters, Louise Gardei of West Point, GA, Janie Mitchum Staples of Roanoke and Ruth Lee of Decatur, GA.

Pallbearers will be James W. Ray III, Tim Bennett, Dennis Teal, Lee Daniel, Cody Brown, and Mike Brown.

Honorary pallbearers will be Ray Buttersnitz, Bruce Ray, Jerry Mobley, Brandon Ray, Keith Ray, and James W. Ray IV.

A Rock Mills native, Mr. Ray was born on July 17, 1926, the son of James William Ray, Sr., and Mary Ethel Borders Ray.  He was a United States Navy veteran of World War II, a member of Roanoke Church of the Nazarene, and worked as a supervisor at Handley Mills.  Mr. Ray was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Charlene Holder Ray; his second wife, Mavis Hyatt Ray; and one brother, Edward Ray.

The family would like to extend our sincere thanks to the staff and nurses at Traylor’s Nursing Center for their wonderful care of our loved one.
