Obituary of Howard Gene Rushton

OBITUARY Funeral services for Howard Gene Rushton, age 78, of Roanoke, will be held Tuesday, March 8, 2011, at 2:00 pm from Roanoke First United Methodist Church with Rev. Steve Baccus and Rev. Steve Dean officiating. Burial will follow at Randolph Memory Gardens. The family will receive friends at Quattlebaum Funeral Home from 5:00 to 8:00 pm on Monday, March 7th. Mr. Rushton will lie in state at the church for one hour prior to services beginning at 1:00 pm on Tuesday. Mr. Rushton died Saturday, March 5, 2011, at Randolph Medical Center. Survivors include two daughters, Paulette Banks (Byron) of Rock Mills and Annette Mitchell (Robert) of Roanoke; one sister, Ruth Paris (Joe) of Phoenix, Az.; one brother, Tommy Rushton (Joy) of LaGrange, Ga.; five grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews. Pallbearers will be Jim Banks, Terry Royster, Rick Camren, Russ Cummings, Eric Cummings and Greg Norred. Member of the Men's Bible Class will serve as honorary pallbearers. A lifelong Randolph County resident, Mr. Rushton was born February 22, 1933, son of Howard and Hazel Hall Rushton. He was an Army veteran of the Korean War, a member of Roanoke First United Methodist Church, and had been employed with Food Town Grocery Store.
