Funeral service for Elizabeth Pruitt “Lib” Hooton, age 87, of Carrollton, Georgia, formerly of Roanoke, Alabama, will be held at 11:00 am on Wednesday, October 5, 2016, from Roanoke First United Methodist Church with Pastor Chris Martin and Pastor Ralph Barrow officiating. The eulogy will be delivered by her daughter, Leslie Hooton Gathings. Burial will follow at Cedarwood Cemetery.
Mrs. Hooton will lie in state at the church beginning at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday. The family will receive friends at the McDonald Family Life Center immediately following the funeral service.
Mrs. Hooton died Monday, October 3, 2016, at her home in Carrollton, Georgia.
Survivors include one daughter, Mary Leslie Hooton Gathings of Charlotte, NC; one son, Robert J. Hooton, Jr. (wife, Allison) of Carrollton, GA; two grandsons, Hutcheson Hooton and Hudson Hooton; two brothers, George Pruitt of Marietta, GA and Ashley Pruitt of Manchester, GA.
Pallbearers will be Craig Prestridge, Sandy Pitman, Trae Bonner, Jimmy Brazeal, Lew Burdette and Dusty Hill.
A Fitzgerald, Georgia native, Mrs. Hooton was born April 15, 1929, the daughter of William and Roselyn Cannon Pruitt. She had been a teacher and a librarian with the Roanoke City School system for many years. She was an active member of Roanoke First United Methodist Church and served as a Sunday School teacher. She was also a member of the Silhouette Club, Roanoke Literary Club and several beloved bridge clubs.
