Obituary of George Louis Davis

George Louis Davis, of Roanoke, Alabama went to be with his Lord on August 8, 2016, at the age of 78.
Louis was born in Rock Mills, Alabama, attended school in Rock Mills and graduated from Handley High School in Roanoke in 1956. After attending Auburn University he lived in Atlanta, Georgia where he was a successful real estate broker and appraiser. He returned to Roanoke in 1970 and was a longtime Roanoke business owner of 3-D Cash & Carry and Ideal Furniture. He was a master gardener and he left a treasure of bountiful trees and plants. Louis was an avid reader and collector of books, old tools, rare trees and flowers.
He was survived by his wife Jeanette Taylor Davis of Roanoke, Alabama, his
son, Greg Davis (wife Heather) of Montgomery, Alabama, his daughter Lisa Davis Fincher (husband, Jerome Fincher) of Roanoke, Alabama, his step-son, Robin Taylor of Roanoke, Alabama, and step-son, Patrick Gooden (wife, Lynn) of Roanoke, Alabama, ten grandchildren Kyle Davis, Amanda Fincher Brown (husband Mathew Brown), Erin Davis, Anna Fincher Taylor, (husband Chris Taylor), Aleigha Fincher, Reid Davis, Allison Gooden, Hannah Ponder (husband, William Ponder), Mary Darby Coleman and Katie Coleman, and two great grandchildren Liam Brown, and Chloe Gooden. His brother, Lamar Davis (wife Cathy) of Roanoke, Alabama and six nephews and nieces Jeff Davis, Chris Davis, Brent Taylor, Lynn Cody, Brenda Dingler and Kelly Cody.
Louis was preceded in death by his parents George and Mary Davis of Roanoke, Alabama and his first wife Lorene Cody Davis of Roanoke, Alabama
Graveside services will be held Tuesday August 9th, 2016 at Memory Gardens. In lieu of flowers, the family request donations to the American Cancer Society.

Quattlebaum’s was founded in 1930 by Robert B. Quattlebaum on Roanoke’s West Point Street. Relocated to Maple Drive, Quattlebaum Funeral Home was just across from Knight Sanatorium for many years. In 1953, a new building was constructed on College Street – where the funeral home is today.
