Funeral services for Geraldean Hurst Kirby, age 78, of Roanoke will be held on Wednesday, March 16, 2016, at 2:00 PM from Quattlebaum Funeral Chapel with Bro. Tim Steffey officiating. Burial will follow at Cedarwood Cemetery.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 5:00-8:00 PM on Tuesday, March 15, 2016.
Mrs. Kirby passed away Sunday, March 13, 2016, at Wedowee Hospital.
Survivors include her husband, James H. Kirby of Roanoke; two daughters, Teresa Holmes (husband, Todd) of LaGrange, GA, and Cindy Cross (husband, Michael) of Orlando, FL; one son, Russell Kirby (wife, Beth) of Roanoke; seven grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and one brother, James Hurst of Pell City.
Pallbearers will be Chris Craven, Tony Burks, Joby Traylor, Mike Palmer, Daniel Anglin, and Joey Gay.
A Talladega native, Mrs. Kirby was born on January 24, 1938, the daughter of Cephus and Mollie Bettis Hurst. She was Church of God by faith and worked as a winder for Wehadkee Mills and Candlewick Yarns. Mrs. Kirby was preceded in death by her parents; one son, Randy Kirby; two brothers, Bill Hurst and Frankie Hurst; and two sisters, Fannie Lu Waldrep and Faye Lawson.

Quattlebaum’s was founded in 1930 by Robert B. Quattlebaum on Roanoke’s West Point Street. Relocated to Maple Drive, Quattlebaum Funeral Home was just across from Knight Sanatorium for many years. In 1953, a new building was constructed on College Street – where the funeral home is today.
