Obituary of Clara Sue Baker

Funeral services for Clara Sue Baker, age 72, of Roanoke will be held on Saturday, June 27, 2015, at 1:00 PM from Wehadkee Missionary Baptist Church with Rev. Elijah Jackson, Jr., officiating. Burial will follow in the adjoining cemetery with Quattlebaum Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 5:00-8:00 PM on Friday, June 26, 2015. Mrs. Baker will lie in state at the church for one hour prior to services beginning on Saturday.
Mrs. Baker passed away Monday, June 22, 2015, at West Georgia Medical Center.
Survivors include four daughters, Patricia Lee (Thomas) of Roanoke, Teresa Dikken (Mario) of Roanoke, Lisa Baker (Ali) of Marietta, GA, and Kisha Baker of Marietta, GA; one son, Gary Baker of Roanoke; nine grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and a special cousin, Marie Heflin.
Pallbearers will be Mrs. Baker’s family.
A Roanoke native, Mrs. Baker was born on August 29, 1942, the daughter of B. Gates and Nellie Trammell. She was a member of Wehadkee Missionary Baptist Church and worked as a spinner for AMOCO Fabrics. Mrs. Baker was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Willie Lee Baker; one son, Willie Baker, Jr.; a grandchild, Dakari Baker; two sisters, Gussie Bell and Sara Gates; and one brother, Reuben Gates.

Quattlebaum’s was founded in 1930 by Robert B. Quattlebaum on Roanoke’s West Point Street. Relocated to Maple Drive, Quattlebaum Funeral Home was just across from Knight Sanatorium for many years. In 1953, a new building was constructed on College Street – where the funeral home is today.
