Obituary of Varnice Cox Johnson

OBITUARY Funeral services for Mrs. Varnice Johnson, of Roanoke, age 91, will be held Saturday, October 24, 2009, at 1:00 pm from the Quattlebaum Funeral Chapel with Rev. Billy Watts officiating. Burial to follow in Randolph Memory Gardens with Quattlebaum Funeral Home in charge of arrangements. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 5:00 to 8:00 pm on Friday, October 23, 2009. Mrs. Johnson died Thursday, October 22, 2009 at Randolph Medical Center. Survivors include two daughters, Marlon Rooney of Opelika, Sue Smith of Roanoke; one son, Larry Johnson of CA; one sister, Rozelle Weathers of Rock Mills; fourteen grandchildren; twenty-seven great grandchildren; six great grandchildren. Pallbearers will be her grandsons. Mrs. Johnson was born November 5, 1917, the daughter of Lorenzo C. and Florence Williams Cox. She was a member of North Main Congregational Christian Church and had been a cloth inspector for Handley Mills. Mrs. Johnson was preceded in death by her husband, Tom L. Johnson; her parents; two sons, Jan Alton Brown and John Tom Johnson; one sister, Velma Pope.
